Many Las Vegas Sportsbooks, like the one at the M Resort, have recently adopted a new technology which allows bettors to place wagers from inside the casino on a handheld device similar to an iPhone. Both the Las Vegas casinos and the bettors are benefiting from the new devices, which allow wagering while the game is in progress.

This new technology, created by Cantor Gaming, for the first time allows gamblers to place wagers on sporting events like football, baseball, basketball, tennis matches and horse races from anywhere inside the casino. Other casino games are also available on these devices, such as blackjack and baccarat.

Having the device right in their hands, while they are watching the game permits gamblers to place wagers on how certain events will transpire. If they are watching a Monday Night Football game and a team is setting up for a field goal, the gambler can wager on the outcome of the kick.

“All of a sudden, these same people who were betting once or twice a game at the beginning of a sporting event can place wagers every minute if they want,” says Anthony A. Marnell III, CEO of the M Resort Spa Casino. “Having this technology changes the entire equation for everyone involved.”

The devices, called eDecks can be credited the same way that regular bets are placed-with cash at the windows. The electronic credits are then stored on the casino servers which transmit the balance to the eDeck.

Other Las Vegas casinos to have adopted the new wireless devices include The Venetian and The Palazzo.

Woman Arrested for Offering Sex in Return for World Series Tickets

Susan Finkelstein, a die-hard Phillies fan, was arrested this week after posting an ad on Craigslist offering sex for World Series tickets. The 43 year-old wife and mother posted an ad on the popular classifieds website stating that she was a “gorgeous tall buxom blonde in desperate need of two World Series tickets”.

After the ad was discovered by police officers scouring the website for pornography, drug deals or child molesters, they then decided to initiate contact with the woman.

Finkelstein was then solicited by an undercover police officer acting as though he had World Series tickets and was interested in the proposition. She was then lured to a local bar where she accepted to perform various sexual acts in exchange for the Yankees vs. Phillies tickets according to police.

When she discovered that the supposed ticket-holder had two tickets for the 2009 World Series, she was even willing to up the sexcapades according to the police. “She was overcome with Phillies fever,” said her lawyer William J. Brennan.

She had also referred to herself in the ad as “the creative type” and wrote “maybe we can even help each other”.

After a local radio station learned of the incident, they decided to give Finkelstein and her husband three tickets for Game 3 of the World Series in Philadelphia.

Finkelstein will now be required to appear in court on charges of soliciting prostitution on top of other various misdemeanors.

Question to ponder: Are baseball outfields inside out?

Ebbets-Field.jpgSpeaking of short outfield porches (see three posts down), here is a question I’ve asked before and never had adequately answered:

Why are baseball outfields deepest in centerfield and shallowest in left and right? Why not a uniform distance all the way around?

In fact, why not have centerfield be the shortest distance from home and the areas just inside the foul poles be the farthest?

This way you reward people for hitting the ball straight, and decrease the benefit for hitting a ball barely fair (home run) versus barely foul (strike).

How about a wall that simply follows a straight line connecting foul pole to foul pole?

Why not? You’ve got until Tuesday morning to explain all this to me. I’m out until then.

Yankees, Mets both win thanks to ‘joke’ home runs

ESPN’s resident Bostonian, Peter Gammons, said here on “Mike & Mike in the Morning” that the new Yankee Stadium is poorly conceived and widely ridiculed.

“I’m tired of people saying, ‘It’s too early; we don’t have enough games,’” he said.

“We have enough games. We know this was not a very well-planned ballpark, and any player that’s played there will tell you it has become one of the biggest jokes in baseball.”

And that was Friday, BEFORE Alex Rodriguez tied Saturday’s tilt against the Phillies with a fly ball that barely cleared the rightfield wall.

Fair enough.

Then again, there was that fly ball by the Mets’ Omir Santos later Saturday that barely cleared the shallow, gimmicky green thing at Gammons’ beloved Fenway. What a not-very-well-planned joke that place is!
